GIS AND SOCIOECONOMIC DATA

A Geographic Information System (GIS) can be defined as 'an organized collection of hardware, software, geographic data and personnel designed to efficiently capture, store, update, manipulate, analyze and display all forms of geographically referenced information'. (Source: "Understanding GIS: The ARC/INFO Method", Environmental Systems Research Institute).

The GIS team at MAG is part of the Information Services Division. It is the responsibility of this team to collect, update, maintain and analyze geographic information and to prepare maps using this information. The team also provides GIS services and support to personnel of MAG, MAG member agencies and MAGIC clients.

Under the projects heading are various data and maps produced by the MAG GIS and socioeconomic program.
